Books for Children by and About Native Americans

Compiled by Evelyn Leasher

This is a compilation of books for children by and about Native Americans in the collection of the Clarke Historical Library. Itis not inclusive of all the literature available, only what is in the CHL. After examining each book I have annotated the book using the words of the author or publisher whenever possible. When the author or illustrator are identified as Native American I have included that information in the annotation. The origin of the tale is also included whenever it is given. Page numbers are included to give an idea of the level of the book. A listing here is by no means an endorsement of the ideas presented in the books. As a research library the Clarke collects widely whatever is printed in the subjects of their interest as these differing viewpoints are of interest to researchers. This material is available to researchers in the Reading Room of the Clarke Historical Library.
